Storm chaser Chad Cowan has created the ultimate time-lapse video of mesmerising and earth-shaking storms, edited from six years of coverage (video at end of article).
The storms were shot from Texas to North Dakota, with Cowan traveling over 100,000 miles across the US. His obsession with storms has driven him to document photogenic supercell storms in as high definition as possible, producing a 4k resolution video called ‘Fractal’.
Cowan explains: “Supercell thunderstorms are a manifestation of nature’s attempt to correct an extreme imbalance.
“The ever ongoing effort to reach equilibrium, or entropy, is what drives all of our weather, and the force with which the atmosphere tries to correct this imbalance is proportional to the gradient. In other words, the more extreme the imbalance, the more extreme the storm.”
